Luxury Greece Holidays
Explore Greece
If you've ever stared longingly at a picture of a blue-topped sugar cube house in the sun, Greece is already in your blood. Sweeping vistas of mountains and seascapes characterise the mainland, while out on the water, a magnificent scattering of idyllic islands await. A country rooted in the most ancient of cultures, the Greek people are down-to-earth and confident in the magnificent appeal of their land. From boutique island hideaways, to ocean-front resorts and rural escapes, we've travelled the length and breadth of Greece to find the places to stay you'll want to know about.
Wherever you choose to make your home from home in Greece, your arrival will be memorable. While the white and blue buildings adorned with vibrant flowers will make you feel welcome, the scents of rosemary and lemon blossom in the air will become your 'forever scent' of Greece. Greek hospitality is the feeling of the architecture and the land, as well as the people.
The Greek islands are famous the world over for good reason, and there are plenty to choose from. The livelier islands of Crete or Corfu have a wider choice of resort hotels and more amenities, while smaller islands such as Kefalonia and Zakynthos have an aura of exclusivity. Whether you're travelling as a couple or a family, there is a Greek island to suit your style down to the very last detail. You could watch the world-famous sunset in Santorini, rub shoulders with the A-listers in Mykonos, spot the sights from the Mamma Mia films in Skiathos, or make the most of a whole raft of family fun on the larger islands. Why not take in a few islands while you're there? Island hopping is a quintessential way to experience Greece, with frequent ferries from the port of Athens Piraeus and between many of the islands.
The Greek mainland is just as good for beach holidays as it is for city or rural breaks. Halkidiki is a firm favourite, known for its staggering 40 Blue Flag beaches and a generous choice of world class hotel resorts. As the city-emblem of Greece, everyone should visit Athens at least once in their life. Centring on the awe-inspiring Acropolis a symbol of Greek heritage that has been ever-present since the 5th century BC Athens is a city that blends staggering ancient sites with urban chic.
Food in Greece is steeped in just as much tradition as the country's most impressive historical sites. The idea of 'home-grown' is at the core of Greek cooking, and small meze dishes offer regional twists on Greek culinary roots in different parts of the country. Expect herb infused olive oils and locally crafted cheeses, delectable dips and handpicked olives, beautifully seasoned meats and fresh fish plucked from the ocean earlier that day. Eating is about community and togetherness in Greece, so sharing dishes and gathering with others for great feasts are all part of it. Say 'yes' to a proffered cup of coffee or a shot of ouzo when in Greece you never know what beautiful new friendships might emerge!
When to visit
Greece is a good place to visit any time of the year. For the warmest weather, any time between May and October is best. If you plan on going island hopping, shops and restaurants on some of the smaller islands only operate during the peak season.
