Viareggio Holidays
Explore Viareggio
'A sunny resort for shady people' was an epithet once accorded by Somerset Maugham to Monaco, it could have equally applied to Viareggio in its 1920's and 1930's heyday. The old art-nouveau facades are still there and make for an impressive, if slightly dishevelled, backdrop to the summer evenings' passeggiatta and the flamboyant, second-largest-in-Italy Easter carnival with its huge papier-mâché floats with thousands of costumed participants. It remains a renowned seaside resort, enjoying its place on the Tyrrhenian Sea and backed by rolling hills and quaint farm houses.
