Tavarnelle Val dI Pesa
Explore Tavarnelle Val di Pesa
Almost midway between Florence and Siena, Tavarnelle Val di Pesa was a natural stopping off point and takes its name from the ancient taverns offering food and shelter for those travelling between the two cities.
Similar to the whole of the Chianti region, Tavarnelle features churches, chapels, villas and farms, although there is rather less of the medieval heritage associated with the region as the town was frequently pillaged. The Gothic church of Santa Lucia al Borghetto is as notable for its architecture as the Romanesque parish church of San Pietro is for its exquisite interior.
